Dahl: The best side dishes to make a meal
Dahl, Dhal, Dal or Daal, this deliciously creamy dish is quite possibly one of the most versatile and healthy Indian dishes. Made with red lentils packed with protein, Fibre, Iron, B-Vitamins, Vitamin C and beta carotene, it’s an easy meal that should be on everyone’s weekly meal planners.
Dahl is a fantastic side dish to serve alongside any of your favourite curry dishes, but it’s also fabulous to serve as a main course too. But what do you serve alongside Dahl? Keep scrolling to discover our favourite Dahl dinners.
1. Naan bread
We love to eat our hearty dahl for lunch or a light dinner with just Naan bread. This light and pillowy bread is just perfect to dip into the soupy texture.
2. Roasted cauliflower
Nothing beats gently spiced and roasted cauliflower served alongside Dahl. In fact, any roasted veg will work.
3. Make a veg stew
While the dahl is cooking you can add tomatoes (or any other veg) to make a warming and hearty spiced lentil stew. It’s a great dish to use up and leftover veggies lurking at the back of the fridge.
4. Stuffed peppers
This is a delicious and healthy vegetarian main course. Just roast up some stuffed peppers (or portobello mushrooms) then stuff them with the dahl and drizzle with yoghurt.
5. Bombay potatoes
A classic Indian side dish, and one we always turn to when we want a simple but tasty meal.
6. Onion Bhajis
Onion Bhajis are a really popular starter and side dish. The crisp texture makes them the perfect addition to a delicious plate of Dahl.
